Echoes
I hear the baby laughing loud and clear,
She’s in the next room so very near,
I look to see that little face,
But there’s no baby in this place.
I hear her crying as she skinned her knee,
Running to get help from me,
I start to say it will be ok, don’t cry,
But since that scrape many years have gone by.
I hear happy giggles of her first date,
She is worried that he will be late,
I turn to give her a warm embrace,
But she is gone, I am alone in this place.
I hear her tell me she is ready to go,
It’s time to go to the church Daddy, don’t you know,
I grab my keys and head for the door,
Then I realize that she’s not here anymore.
I hear the baby laughing loud and clear,
She’s in the next room so very near,
Running to be lifted into my arms,
Safe and secure away from all harm.
Is this another one of my cruel dreams?
Is this laughter as real as it seems?
She’s in my arms as real as can be,
It’s my grand daughter visiting me!
