Earth Abides
The world pauses in expectation, a waxing moon
The timepiece whose silent ticking is heard by
The worm within as it gnaws with urgent force.
Momentum of thinking is fuelled by hope,
Ordaining the path towards joy or despair;
An uncertain end pricking inner turmoil.
The world watches, but sees only an outward calm,
Not the worm’s insistent bite within. Yet;
The world smiles, the moment passes and the
Worm is stilled when hope is not yet lost.
Earth abides, and this small radish dissolves
Into introspection, becoming lost in fairy castles of hope,
Ignoring the realities of life and the ruthless
(im)probabilities of success.
