Each New Generation

Has each new generation seen
Great changes in their day.
Or, has our earth just really been
A temporary stay?

I live, I breathe, I eat, I sleep
Get older every year.
If only youth could always keep
Old age would never near.

And when I go, who’ll really care
That I have come and gone?
I’ll take my leave and go elsewhere
A new place then belong.

Sometimes, I find I question why
I’m really on this earth.
We're born, we live, and then we die
What really is our worth?

I seem to want an answer straight
What purpose do I serve?
Do I just leave it up to fate,
The answer I’ll reserve.

Our history books are filled with tales
Of people long gone by.
They came, they saw, left their details
I really wonder why?

By man-made rules we seem to live.
Seek guidance from above.
Through rhetoric or narrative
We still have push and shove.

Some kings, wise men, philosophers
Who ruled, had much to say.
But now, to us it matters not
What they did in their day.

The time right now we should engage
This moment that we’re in.
We can’t go back and turn the page
But, from today begin.
