We beget only of our kind. Fish make fish, birds make birds, Flocks, shoals, schools and herds, All animals are the same you’ll find. Packs, prides hives and tribes, rakes, hobs, Mobs and pods, all designed with this in mind. Shark opens from shark’s opened purse, Roaring lion cubs lion’s cub, And gentle dove from dove eggs birth. Violence tends to violence. Anger regrets an anger worse When softer words are silenced. Yet curse of kind is broken by a kinder birth With the violence of that tree-bound curse. Such love breaks mould for all on earth, Such love unfolds the deepest truth, That God is love, And love has only come By violence not withheld, With love’s most certain proof The giving of the Son.
