Dusty Road

A. W. Nutter Walking along the dusty road The boy in me begins to unfold Transforming into a barefoot child Escaping home and running wild Leaving my troubles far behind Out of sight but not out of mind Dust clouds cover but can not hide Mental cells where the demons abide Painful thoughts I refuse to embrace Happy memories I try to retrace The magical pond suddenly appears Trying to hold back foolish tears The cooling water engulfs the skin Loving caresses from an old friend Basking in the pool of tranquility A childhood haven from reality A place to heal when under duress Evil memories blocked from access A spiritual place helping me transcend As out of the darkness I try to ascend

A very well thought of poem. I believe we all get that impulse to flee from our every day concerns to try and make sense of our deeper emotions that are always a prisoner, an undercurrent- to that which is mundane surfacing. Regards, Gavin.

Powerful poem, I loved the flow. However it's better to let them surface no matter how bad they are. Enjoyed!

I enjoyed this poem very much as it brought back memories of my childhood haven---a special tree that I climbed. Thank you for your comment on my poem about grandchildren and what they hear in the summer.

A lovely flow in this rhyming verse, nothing forced, it reads so well. The imagery of the man seeking refuge in his childhood safe places is quite outstanding. well written Anthony...Margaret

The best way to Anthony is as you say from within,if only we take time to listen in to that quiet voice.Rgds Brian

Thank you for the trip back to my childhood, where everything seemed easy and carefree. I'll never quite understand why everyone was in such a rush to grow up! Fantastic write, Anthony, I enjoyed it very much.

AWESOME ... I love it and will add it to my "favorite" list ... that inner child that always brings healing (Isaiah 11:6) inspite of the fact that that is where my pain began !! Great write here, Anthony!!
