Dusty Road
Tired footsteps drag
sliding barely lifted
stirring the dust
that clings to all
light does burn
stealing moisture
drying cracking
life fading away
drawing near to
town so ancient
ruined buildings
along the way
entered into
square abandoned
empty buildings
like skulls line
once white marble
like alabaster
stands of fountain
water stained
once did life give
to all the people
who once were here
now gone away
not barest trickle
here does linger
nor does hope
yet here remain
