Dusty Old Road
Listen to poem:
One night
When I was tired, scared and sad
And the sun was low
I went out for a walk
On a dusty old road
Alone
Here was my refuge, my shelter
Nature on both sides lay
Tranquil, motionless
Not warm, not cold – indifferent
The clouds drooped with weight by the skyline
The wind spasmodically rose
Agitating the serenity about me
Lost in a deep pool of thought
My mind wandering relentlessly
I walked and I walked
I looked around me
I walked and walked
Till my troubles seemed diluted
And my mind more at peace
I heard music in the forest
I listened for a while
To that quiet symphony of beauty
Then I returned
With a dwelling hope
Of a sunnier morning
Of the dawn of a happier day
