Dusk

I sat alone in the room,
No one else in the house,
As the light started to fade
In the ceiling, a scurrying mouse

My cigarette smoke made
mystic forms in the incoming
rays of the sun..
I knew my time in this house
was very near done

Decades of family so happy here,
My sad fate to be
The last one alone to fear
The ghosts of my family
Soon their house would be gone
And all I could hope for
Was to help them move on,

Alone, dust, smoke, some fear...
Saddness and despair ever more near

Broken spirited man
Swirling thoughts
like his smoke,
Gagging on sadness
Very near to choke

Goodbye sweet home
Goodbye sweet family
This is where I'd choose
to die, given a choice,
In hopes to again hear
One of my loved one's
sweet voice.
