Well written, love the form, so quick paced. Such a tragedy that really was preventable, well described. Congrats on your win!

Thanks, John. It is difficult to say how preventable it was - they were a large group and moving slowly, but the weather was pretty good early in the day. hindsight is 20/20, sigh.

Congrats on your win, Agnes. I see you only have visited Utah. Do you remember that movie they made about the guy who went in a southern park and fell into a hole like a cave in a canyon? He had to cut off his own arm to get himself unlodged. It's quite the story. DO you know of it?

Yes, Aron Ralston in Blue John Canyon. I read the book and watched parts of the film. He did not fall into a hole; he climbed over a chokestone which then rolled and trapped his arm. It was a freak accident that could happen any time, in any canyon, to anybody; a good reminder always to hike with companions or at least leave an itinerary. Utah is beautiful; we love it!

Thank you, Darren. Yes, it is horrible. I think that was the worst canyoneering accident in Zion ever.

Such a tragedy, but how amazingly you brought us the story with such a smooth flow of two-syllable sentences, Agnes. Yours should do really well in the contest. Best wishes! Hugs, Sandra

No, I live in Missouri, but we love canyoneering and travel to Utah every year. We have been in Zion, but not done this one. Hits pretty close to home though.

Agnes, a well told story from a beautiful place. "Keyhole Canyon," now that sounds wickedly scary in time of flash floods. And probably so beautiful in dry times. I think southern Utah has more varied beauty than any place on earth.

So I have to think about life in general - is there a big wall of water back there somewhere, rushing at us?

Thanks, Doug. Yes, Utah is one of the most beautiful places, and Zion is fabulous. And slot canyons can be quite scary, I am always a bit uneasy.
