"Due Process For Who?"

Individuals speak of justice
As if it lived in every room,
As if fairness sat beside every
Judge,

As if every voice
Arrived carrying equal weight.

Yet I watched doors open
For some,
While others stood knocking
With bleeding knuckles.

Some got patience.
Others got presumption.

Some got hearings
Others got headlines.

Some were questioned.
Others were concluded.

Justice isn't Justice
When it's rationed.

Rights aren't rights
When they're guarded.

So I ask,
From observation,
Not bitterness:

If we're equal under the law,
Why does fairness
Seem to know our names
Before it knows the facts?
