Duck On the Smolenka
DUCK ON THE SMOLENKA
Middle of river just relaxing
Riding the waves
From the western breeze
And the waves large and small
Passed under him
Buoyant and sublimely afloat
Slipped by him leaving no wetness
Passed through him
Without affecting his swim at all
As if the water was not present
As if he was part of it
The water and bird simply resonated -
The sound from a violin
Emerging as the vibration of the strings
Manifesting itself in air filled with
Mechanical movement
Materializing as the unseen twin
Of the unheard stretched strings -
And he rode trough and crest
Without effort or purpose
Pure poetry of motion
In waves of delightful music
