Dubious Physics

I have long loved astonomy. It led me to cosmology,(No, I don't do hair!!) Cosmology led to physics. Which i had always thought was a generic Ex-Lax. So I have been reading up on it these last odd years. (And believe me, they have been odd!!!) But I'm starting to lose my faith. Physics books tell me things appear from nowhere. (Like my ex-wife!) Virtual particles just materialize, etc... I don't know. I've been waiting for over a year for a package of swiss cheese to appear in my refrigerator. I have my doubts now. And no cheese. Rats.
