Dry Waters

Not even a trickle
nor a drop
the ground is parched
within my mind

A tune lingers
I hum it all day
yet it has no words to it
I just call it my happy song

It's supposed to have words
if it is a song
although it makes me happy
as I hum it

It takes away my pain
like some medicine
my doctors know nothing of
I even hum it in church

Maybe I actually hum
it in my sleep
I wake each morning
with it on my breath

It isn't like a hangover
not at all
just the opposite
best yet, it costs nothing.
