Drunken Moon

through dawn fuzzy haze
 soused in sunrise cointreau rays
 sits the woozy moon

I told you that I'll come back to comment after seeing this entry on the winners' list! Great haiku, and I love the word 'soused'. Congrats on a merited win. // paul

Grazzi, Paul, and I heartily agree- 'soused' being either drunk or marinated is a much underused word. We have our Beer festival starting tonight in Derby, so tomorrow lunch I'm going to get sou- er, merry. regards, Viv

Thanks, SKAT, very kind. You put yourself in a cleft stick entering your own competition, but I see you've placed yourself stylishly. Clever, but your poem was worth a higher place. Viv x

Love it !!! Very clever little Haiku.. the Cointreau/sunrise hues match and the 'fuzzy haze/woozy moon' is brilliant. Good luck.. sure to get a placing x~x

Thanks, Kim, I don't normally touch anything apart from a beer or a glass of wine, but Cointreau with it's warm soothing colour (and the past experience of being mellowed by it ) worked well, I think. Thanks for dropping by, and I shall visit your work shortly. Viv x

Very descriptive haiku, Viv. Won't leave you wondering what exactly is going on. Learned another word - soused...:-). PS. About your comment to my trad haiku on ants, thank you for referring me to Ogden Nash. Will have to acquaint myself with his works. Sorry I had to mention it here, I inadvertently deleted the poem and PSoup still have not replied. :-)

No worries, Kim. I have loved Ogden's work since childhood. My Irish Uncle introduced me to the silly poems, but as you go through his works you discover a sharp perception, honed by his wisdom of the ages. Some lines will stay with you forever- I will be interested to see which of his writings 'float your boat', as it were. Patiently work your way through them. Viv x
