Notes About The Poem

Drowning

No-one has to die
As the waters swirl around
Your feet are trapped
Or so you think
Your epitaph 'They Drowned'

You feel your neck is stretching
Your fate soon to conclude
But honestly, I see you
So without meaning
To be rude

Take my hand or grab the rope
It's not that far away
When fear or pride
Might stop you..
Live to fight another day

Don't feel you're obligated
There is no salvation charge
Just arms length from a rescue
Whether speedboat, jet-ski,
Barge

The vehicle doesn't matter
It's intent that you should see
No inclination to be tethered
You can walk away
Scott-free

Your lungs can breathe
No version where this let's you slip away
Let the peaceful air
Restore you
No-one has to die today

Very well written, Sam, "no one has to die today" - we just need to reach out for help:)

A very deep poem, i find you as a very versatile poet, that can write about anything and everything and still leave an impression. This poem did just that too. The way you’ve reminded us readers to fight for light, when everything seems overwhelming, how and where and when doesnt matter, how far we reach too doesnt, as long as you remind yourself to not give up: and receiving help isnt bad, allow yourself to be picked up too! Brilliant poem . Loved this

That is a very insightful and wise observation IE. Asking for help (especially for men it seems) is perceived as weakness and yet truthfully it is a sign of strength. You encourage me greatly. I do thank you :)

I was feeling like this a few weeks ago and for no apparent reason, I did just that and grabbed at anything to start that pull out of despair and am back where I started now, a good place. Excellent writing, Scott

I like to think there is always a rope or a helping hand when we find ourselves in that place. Thank you for your kindness :)

Many times, the person fearing drowning fights the person there to save them, at times causing the death of both people. I really like the line, "When fear or pride Might stop you.. Live to fight another day". So many times in life I've had to pay an enormous price because of ego and/or pride. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us through your poetry, Sam. A poet friend in Texas, Bill p.s. thanks for following my poet.

Thanks for the resonance, Bill. We all need a helping hand sometimes and it can come in surprising, unexpected packages. Keep writing :)
