Driving Into Dusk

Stringing the Editors up to my ears
in the car, while the trees turn green to a blur.
Slipping on leather to slouch and to doze
while the feeling concludes me in my favorite song.
The road is stretched into dusk.
Your profile is strong in the corner of my eye.
"Munich" is bleeding it's words in my blood
as I smile at my own reflection in the window.
Leaning over to kiss your unshaven cheek,
I whisper: "This is my favorite song you know".
You smile in a side glance and whisper back:
"I know" as you grab my hand.
It seems the exact moment we reach dusk in the road
that you lean over and hit "repeat".
The trees turn grey
and the lids unwind my lips to peace
while I breathe into my mirror's image
and turn my back on another day.
