Drink From My Lips One Last Time

Drink from the chalice of my lips. Slowly, my love, and savor each drop. My cup is nearly depleted from your sips and I shall mourn deeply when we stop. Our candle's flame burns grievously low, but my love for you will continue to glow. Perhaps this love was not meant to be so with an aching heart, I set you free. The mantle clock has begun to chime. The hour's come and I must not sway, so drink heartily from me one last time; one last kiss before I turn and walk away. If I should ever find you standing at my door I will know the broken trellis has been mended and our love will flourish to bloom once more, rekindling a love that should never have ended.

Lin, I do like how you let love go with such grace. The freedom is there for its return, but you can deal with it either way. That's a very grown up way of looking at a relationship people at large should strive to imitate. Ahh the wisdom you have!!

Merci, Duke. I've let it go with more tears than grace but deal with it we must. If it's meant to be... Wisdom comes with the experience to stand and walk again. It's never easy to let go.

Thanks ever so much, Jan. Just last night David told me that he thinks my best poetry are of lost love. I was surprised that he reads me... after all these years, but life and love is filled with surprises. Sounds like an idea for a poem.
