Dreams of Memories

Dedicated to Roger
With all my love

Eyes shut tight, in the middle of the night--
Still he moans in his sleep.
Stars are bright in the sky tonight
But his memories run so deep.

Tosses and turns, the whip still burns;
He hasn't felt its sting in years.
His memory churns and his spirit yearns,
To fight off nameless fears.

Eyes shut tight he's asleep tonight.
His cries wrench him from his dreams.
It isn't right, but it is his plight--
Memories as real as the screams.
