Author's Notes: "Dreams Divine," is a Canzone I completed on January 1, 2017. This is my first poem of the new year, and I wrote it as a special tribute to a dear friend of mine. This is the third Canzone I've written that follows the original poetic tradition of this particular format, as a precursor to the sonnet, which was significantly influenced by both Francesco Petrarca (Petrarch) and Dante Alighieri. The structure of this Canzone consists of One Stanza rendered in 14 verses. I kept this write in "Open Meter" this time, vice the more traditional Iambic Pentameter or Hexameter schema. My purpose with this poem was to consider certain aspects of the ethereal nature of dreams and the innate subtlety they reflect deeply in one's own psyche, in effect, in the "soul's mirror" itself. Similar, in intent, to what I mentioned in an earlier Canzone ("God's Holy Whisper of Love") that I wrote and posted on July 15, 2016 -- it's nice to know that there are poets from centuries past to the present, who have touched on themes similar to mine here, and have continued to speak of the importance of love and passion in the human experience and the quintessential role they play in prayer and reflection toward bringing each of us closer to God. In effect, God's message to mankind in our mortal world is one of love. We should endeavor to listen for the message He sends to us in our dreams, and in each of our personal prayers to Him.
