Dreams Are Only Dreams

When I was young and full of dreams,
and hope of sweet success,
I set my course and then my sights,
on fame and happiness.

I knew with inner certainty
the things I wished to do!
With my conscience as my guide,
I expected they'd come true!

Then, quietly and subtly,
my circumstances, changed!
The dreams that I, before held dear,
were greatly rearranged!

I learned that Dreams are only Dreams.
Without work, they won't come true,
because, Life is what you make of it,
it's success is up to you!

so true..I did get everything I dreampt of as a child and more but many things do fall under 'be careful what you wish for you may get it!' Thanks for stopping by Ralph I've missed YOU. [excellent use of rhyme and meter!] Why not give me a 8/6/8/6 ballad for the Creepy Irish Critters Contest!] Light & Love

How true, Ralph. Many of us have dreams that are "rearranged" as we mature. And we only get from life what we put into it. Excellent poem with a terrific rhyme, meter and message. Congratulations on your win! Love, Carolyn

It is true that dreams without good deeds and hard work will remaim just dreams. Still, we can dream...even if we know some of those dreams cannot ever come true. Some dreams do, some don't.

For some reason this reminds me of that poem, "When I am an Old Woman, I Shall Wear Purple." Do you know it? Thanks, Ralph, happy day~N
