Notes About The Poem

My poems are mostly optimistic and uplifting. Yet, at times, something burdensome finds its way into them... I have battled fatigue and pain since my youth... Hereditary osteoporosis, progressively extensive deformities of the entire spine, and since 2019, the insidious Paget's disease of bone.

dream trap

pain imprisons me
in the tightest straitjacket
again sleepless night...
I call upon the angels
to help me in endless fight

A powerful, poignantly compressed tanka. The tight, confining imagery of the “straitjacket” makes the pain and sleeplessness immediate, while the final appeal to angels brings a moving thread of faith and endurance.
