Dream Baby

Dear Aaron, you’re my blessing and my pride
the child I’ve always dreamt of
the years were vanishing before my eyes
and each birthday was a sobering reminder
of dreams that might be withering away and life slipping me by

I’ll always remember when I found out
my life was so about to change
it was a Wednesday afternoon
just like any other Wednesday afternoon

I somehow never noticed
the glowing sparkle in your mother’s eyes
looking back now I see it so vividly and since then
each night’s been filled with dreams
of every moment I’d spend with you
holding your tiny hands, seeing you grow
take your first steps, your first words

I was exuberant and
wanted to burst with excitement after all
I was being blessed with the magic of fatherhood
a reward from above for leading the good life

Always remember how much you were desired
and welcomed in this life
no matter what life throws at us, we will rise above it
you’ll have a better life than I
because you’re blessed
and I’ll never let you down
