Dreaded Day

DREADED DAY

What if I denied Christ on that dreadful day
When someone would threaten to take my life away?
What if I would weaken under all the stress
Of great persecution or of great duress?
I don’t want to think of just what I would do
On some dreaded morning that I just might view.
But that dreaded morning is not quite severe
As one dreaded judgment where I might appear.
What if I faced Jesus and He said to me,
“Sir, I never knew you and never set you free.
You were just too busy, you were so sincere,
But you never trusted Me on earth’s hemisphere.
Now you’ll spend forever in the lake of fire,
Never with a comfort that you might desire.”
Yes, that dreaded morning I don’t want to face,
Not that Great White Throne there to be so disgraced.
And I surely want to face Him on some day
Hear Him give me welcome and to hear Him say,
“Well done, My good servant, you are here to stay.”
I do not deserve it, that I truly know,
For I falter often and I struggle so.
But I trusted Jesus on that special day
Now I want to serve Him in some simple way.
Whether it’s through poems with their special rhymes,
Or if it’s in sermons and their good outlines,
Whether it’s as an usher, or in Sunday School,
Anywhere God wants me, I must let Him rule.
I may not be perfect or well-known in my way,
But I don’t want to face Him on some dreaded day.
I don’t want to hear Him say, “Depart from Me.”
Nor to hear His sorrow when His face I see.
So, Lord, keep me tender, keep me humble, too,
So that when life’s over, I’ll be glad to see You.

So true! Keep our eyes on him...away from lies...which will save no one!
