Dragons and Fairies
Once long ago, in a faraway land,
people believed in dragons and fairies.
Some even claimed to have seen them firsthand
while out picking mushrooms or blueberries.
They were friends back then, not adversaries,
and were considered contemporaries.
It seems that fairies and dragons were kin,
should you spot one, the other was nearby.
They both loved the sounds of a mandolin,
and somehow magically learned to fly;
often zipping across the open sky
quick as you please, in the wink of an eye.
But jealous villagers hunted them down,
and many dragons and fairies were slain.
Where their forest once grew, Man built a town
and then sowed their open meadows with grain.
And dragons and fairies feared man's disdain,
vowing never to trust humans again.
Mere figments of our imagination;
or were they once part of God's creation?
