Drag

Once upon a haven for now a heathen waif once unified by craft now a lowly execrate for loving every neighbour for flying a rainbow flag for once upon a kinship now pariah what a drag *** Dedicated to all the poets who have left for safer sites.

Great play on the word "drag" Maureen, what with drag queen readings in libraries under siege + no to Pride flags outside of schools. Intolerance is a drag indeed. Best wishes, Brian

I’m stunned by the protests outside of schools in my little Ottawa, children stomping on pride flags, an image I won’t soon forget; teaching intolerance a drag too. Cheers, xomo

Know this little one, you're understood and respected no matter where you are. Beauty doesn't hide behind Flags or poems. It's shown in the heart, in your heart. With lots of hugs A.S.

Amen. A man. A woman. A person. A written word doesn't have a face; it's the reader's own interpretation... Always thanks for your insight Maureen. Hugs...

Nicely worded Maureen, a sad state when people don't feel safe, we should all be accepting of each other

Amazing how much flags mean to us, isn't it?! When I see the Blue-and-White flag of Israel and hear their National Anthem playing, tears just well up in my eyes... When I see the Palestinian flag waved at protest marches by men brandishing MK-47s, not so much... I'm human, I guess, with all the prejudices and biases that come with the species... Thanks for all the food for thought, Mo!!! Keep writing 'em! Light and Illumination, Gershon

Every flag is made of its people, and their blood. Empathy is the only way through past and over our prejudices I believe. That and education of course, learning or unlearning. I’m still learning. xomo

Sad to think about, Maureen. There is a curve, of folks on one end -strict straight other end -strict gay and the middle has an endless degree of variation. Sexuality is all kinds of variations, and nuances, what can you do?

The same with gender too, nature is never so simple, the binary a human construct. What can I do but write a few poems, let a few people know I love them, let them know that they are safe from me. xomo

Maybe I am so far "out of the loop" that i miss most of the situations that I hear about. Poetry has been a haven and a cathartic release for me therefore it is very disconcerting to hear that that relief is being denied to poets on an "alleged" poetry site...for poetry is the language of the heart....let us not drive a spear into it.

Poetry is similarly cathartic for me, it has helped me heal so much. If only we stuck to the poetry, instead of sticking it ;), Warm hugs, and appreciation John, xomo

oh, this is so sad, maureen! i know that many people are no longer on the site, but i didn't realize that people have left for being harrassed for those reasons. there is so much meanness and hatred in the world that it's terrible to realize that even poets can't respect each other's differences...

I suppose all that meanness and hatred couldn’t help but overflow here, being mere humans as we are. I would have thought poetry would connect us more. Hugs, you, one of the finest poets I know. xomo
