Dove

My dove flew away last night...
Only soft, white feathers remain...
I let it go, and it did not return...
It just flew through the pouring rain...
I may never see my dove again...
For I suppose, it was never mine...
Perhaps another bird I will gain...
In which no cage will it be confined...
