Double Exposure
I was about to write an expose
the muse turned its head – looked away
I replied: “they need to know what I think”
The answer - a condescending wink
A vicious and scalding silent retort
A head shake that read – you’ve naught to report
Yet inside my head a still battle roared
Sleeping beside it the muse loudly snored
Then in a canyon, a chasm of thought
I turned off the TV and all it had wrought
And wrote of a leaf and a cat long gone feral
Threw a few nuts to a chattering squirrel
Then left the room with the loud ticking clock
Put on my mask and went out for a walk
