Dot To Dot
dot to dot
and spot to spot
the freckles splatter
over my daughters face
I trace the pattern gently
across soft young skin
and then I make a dot too
with a kiss
on her nose
the inherited dots
are part of our lineage
she looks exactly like
my mother did at her age
and I have them too
faded now through time
It's an odd thing -
the past and the present
connecting through dots
I wonder if her children
will have them too
