Notes About The Poem

Don’t Answer That

When I was young
and the telephone rung
we all made a beeline
straight to the phone line

“I’ll answer that!”
Was mom’s preemptive cry
then we’d stop and
let her by

Today it isn’t the same
We’re playing the
‘don’t answer, they’ll
leave a message’ game

Some leave no message at all
So did they really call?
For those who do
we play phone tag too!

How I long for the simpler days when you didn't have to worry about phone calls and spam calls all the time, in those days you picked up the phone and slammed it down if they were annoying, it's not so satisfying when you tap a button to end the call.

So true. A simpler time, and pay phones cost a dime. ;-)

Oh memories. Now we can't escape that call it's in our pocket when we go out. Flat batteries are my best excuse.

Ahh, the days of home phones and pay phones in phone booths. Now if it’s not in our pocket, we oftentimes go back home to get it! Thanks for stopping by, Alison.
