Dominion of the Wind

The dominion of the wind
A wildly magical place
Eyes closed in pleasure
As she blows gently on your face

She'll whisper in your ear
A reminder that she's there
She moves the earth around you
Cannot help but stop and stare

Lying on a blanket watching her at work
Her quiet song making leafy treetops prance
Calming, resting, and watching
The grassy field rhythmically dance

She was there for a while
Then she'd be on her way
She'd turn and look softly
When I whispered don't go stay

For years I was the one
She chose to keep me by her side
She brought me with her
On this love filled ride

But the wind is the wind
She does not long linger or wait
Tear filled eyes informed me
I now was fully aware of my fate

I tried my best to keep her
I loved her with all my might
She knows what she lost
None of this is right

The wind chose to keep all others safe
I would be the only one she'd inflict pain upon
She knew full well her actions would destroy me
I'd be incomplete when she was gone

I was a fool to believe I could keep the wind
She never wanted anymore from me than the piece she took
I should have know better
I should have seen through the heartfelt look

I was the only one who with a word could end her reign
My pain was acceptable in her opinion
Forever adrift in a sea of pain
In the wind's dominion
