Dog Sticks

...like a dog stick
they toss your soul
into water snake cold lakes
fakes
getting rocks on and off
watching you retrieve
hope
hopelessness
for Christ's sake.

Those bouncing blue balls of hate
mad stars they are
shine sucking parasites
watching an arm churning
sleep-deprived moth-man
chasing dog sticks
into blood-blotted froth
while filling lemonade glasses
with scorpion piss.

Someday I'll burn that dog stick
and singe their paper-tongued promises.

Anthony, your poem packs a punch and very deserving of a win in Charlotte's competition. Your use of words to convey vitriol are very effective.I just had to look up Scorpion Piss (I love the phrase) and found it to be a popular Vodka cocktail containing Vodka,Tangerine Gatorade, and Peppermint. I'm not too sure you were referring to a cocktail but your poem has certainly left its mark on me. :) Congratulations Cheers - Gary

well done on this bold statement poem; caustic, fearless use of language, very modernistic and current; the closure to the poem is very good - congrats on your win in my contest!
