Dog of War

If you see a dog sleeping close to a trench
steer clear of the landmine; it’s snowy
the delicate task is delayed, let your chest
breath the cold air while your eyes explode by
the wind-carried powder.
Little dog soldier, runs faithfully smelling danger;
for rats in trenches there’s no peace as long as
snow continues and this grey soldier keeps after them with his steal shovel.
