Notes About The Poem

Dog Days Endure

Dog Days Endure

Sirius, rising with late summer sun,
Dog star, your timeless tour has just begun.
Sweet sultry lazy days beside the lake,
These precious waning days of swimming fun.

How I'll miss the warmth this season bestows
As romance dwells in soft full moon that glows.
I will miss the ducks that soon will fly south,
I'll miss my sandals baring naked toes.

Atavistic admiration will buy
These glorious last latent days from sky
Until autumn breezes in with her chill
And I will welcome hues and will not sigh,

For each season has beauty that's unique
With shades of glory in milieu mystique.
Each a blessing progressing to the next
Till then, let dog days gift the joys I seek.

Your rubaiyat is brilliant, Connie. P.S.: The first week of July, if I'm not mistaken)

I can't believe this contest never closed out yet. It was such a great idea and here we are already into November. Gosh I think Greg thought this up in August. What is wrong with people around here?? Again, I sure hope to see this on the winners' list, Connie.

Wow! You welcome each season and live in the moment, while others are just wishing time would move faster. Your descriptions of both summer and autumn - they are breathtaking, dear. I am not familiar with the Rubaiyat form, but I see how you followed the pattern of rhyme. Sending winning wishes your way! Hugs, Carolyn

It was very nice to wake to see this comment from you Carolyn. I have been so busy the last few days, I have had no time to read or write. This is the first Rubaiyat I have written and I am not even sure I wrote it correctly. Thank you for your lovely comment and good wishes. Have a great day. xxoo

I can't believe we haven't read each others Rubaiyat for the contest. Mine had a super short shelf life because I had to post another or miss a contest. (Summer Lacings) Yours is a breath of optimism, courting the beauty and gifts in all seasons, appreciating with gratitude the gift leaving, the gift coming. Very pretty and easy to feel, relate to and spend time with. Love ... CayCay

Hi Connie, a wonderful write you place before us. It suits the Rubaiyat form so well. Summer is ending and Autumn does come. The imagery is so vivid within your gentle words. Every season has its wonders. Your words sing of Summer and the coming of the cooler seasons. I love the content Connie. This write is a fave. Have a wonderful Sunday. Hugs....Mike. XX

Thank you Lindsay. I feel for those facing a frigid winter. Our tropical weather keeps within about 15 degree change year round. : )

I like the from you used - Omar Khayam was the master at it. Good job here - and yes summer is gone but autumn has its delights and then comes the holiday season. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Sirius seen now and tells us what is coming seasonally. Last night I saw alpha Centauri for the first time. So I am far from home, but it reminds me that summers always exist somewhere. Enjoy the dog days! Perhaps the appearance of Sirius is the origin of dog days? I never thought about that.

Such a lovely poem, Connie. You must live up north and look forward to the summer but I live down south and look forward to the winter.
