Does a Butterfly Remember

does a butterfly remember

jahan could design no greater
work of art for beloved mumtaz.
did he weep as he watched
heavenly perfection flutter dance
through his garden
outshining the rarest blooms.
does the butterfly remember?

does she remember that once
she fell from the fingers of god
into the heart of a pale blue lily.
then drank her fill of the nectar of eden
a tear appeared on the blessed cheek
all was innocence in that time.

as short her life, as silent
her comings and goings
she passes through
the softness of summer
god’s diminutive palette.
does she remember, us?

from earth bound egg
to winged glory
each passage ends
complete in its change.
her wings carry
the final tales in a
blaze of delicate design.

Another fantastic piece of poetry! And I could not agree more than with David's remark -- you poetry does deserve far more exposure! You do so remind me very much of the mindset of William Blake; there is also, underpinning a lot of your poetry, a strong sense of an almost Chinese philosophic approach regarding your verse -- your pen does compose such compulsive reading, Patricia! :) john

Amazing! Your poetry does not get the hits that it should.

Thank you so much David. I am beginning to think it gets to the people who are searching for something.
