Doctor Dog
I hear
roww roww
softly but enough to wake me
sick and facedown on my bed
pitch dark
rowl roowwwwlll
big black nose poking my sore one
tail wagging just at the end
bright brown eyes questioning
why are you sleeping?
are you ever getting up?
I try to talk but my throat is too sore
akkgaakkk comes out
ears go up
but the nose pushes forward
breath to breath
tears come to my eyes and I pat your sturdy head
I can hear you thinking
get up getup getupihavetopee
so I do
we stand outside and I'm surprised its July
I have a January cold
the night is warm and I hear you nearby
and then you are leaning on me
sitting in the night
so tall your head reaches my shoulder when I'm sitting
getting some air.
maybe I'm a little better.
rowl rowl
