Kathleen Hassall Poet Free verse

Do you really want to know?

"Good morning, how are you today?"
I briefly wonder "Do you really want to know?"
Before I answer "I'm fine, how about you?"
I get a brief answer back, but I briefly ask myself
"Do you really want to know?"
And I can honestly say "YES"
Lay it out for me, "How are you?"
"What can I do or pray for you today?"
I want to be real, be kind, and present.
I REALLY want to know!!!!

Kim Rodrigues February 11, 2025 at 6:34 AM We should be able to ask and answer, however some have an unending litany and wisely (some) hold back. Then I made the (innocent) mistake of asking a mourner in a grief session. After my mom died, Dad’s answers are usually “same old, same old,” and I’ve come to find those answers okay.
