Distant Shores
DISTANT SHORES
As I stand on the distant shores
Overlooking the sea of my life
I see there before me
Happiness mingled with strife
The happiness is the joy of family
The strife, the loss of the same
I can see them all very clearly
And call them each by name
Most of them are like strangers
Yet as I see each one in review
They all have a family resemblance
Like old friends I felt I knew
As I survey their faces
And they in turn see me
They beckon me to follow
And live eternally
Now on the distant shores
Of Jordan's stormy banks
I stand in awe of glory
And give God all my thanks
He beckons me to enter
And meet His Only Son
So I'll cross those distant shores
When life on earth is done
