Disappointment

I had a taste of disappointment today It was bitter, foul on my tongue It helped me to sink further into my self-inflicted misery It left me somewhere between Telling myself it’ll be ok And believing I’m stupid to be feeling anything at all I had a taste of disappointment It was possibly the worst thing I could have ingested And you gave me the spoon with which I could eat it But you ate some too And I love you anyway We tasted disappointment But we know it’ll digest eventually And we understand that sometimes we’ll have to endure That obscene taste again And that disappointment is not the end Just something to cringe at, consume, and move on from
