Dirty Love

DIRTY LOVE

She looked for her love in the dirt,
Left her heart in the feeble search
Digging for the painted stone,
Afraid it would betray her
Foolish lust and leave her alone.
She could not trust the trees
To guard her secret, no faith
In the breeze to keep it quiet
Nor the rose bush to hide it.
She left her love in my dirt
Then wiped her muddied hands
Onto my love-stained shirt.
