Different

I held on to a story
an inundation of quiet memories
it's vastness bearing upon me
that it broke my spine.

and yet I chose to wait
like the last autumn leaf
dangling on a broken bough.
I chose silence
in the parchment of life
and chose to hide
behind shadows of time.

Was I a coward?
Or was is it clarity I hoped to gain
perhaps... just perhaps
I was just very different.
