Contest aside, John - you described devotion so darn well. I am especially taken with forgetting the past - so true because past pain can cause such fear of trying. I don't get the loss devastation, but you do and I am sure it will resound with others. Not every line of every poem will touch everyone, as you know. A fine job - I was captivated enough to read it 4 times ... CayCay

As an aside, some love, but are not wholly devoted to that person, so in my view the more devoted ones suffer more loss, as attachment to that one has been forcibly severed by accident, not by choice.

Devotion is more than romantic love, it is a loyal attachment to the loved one, so if something happens to a loved one, the object of ones devotion, hence more tragic feelings as a consequence of the loss, hope this explains that line, thanks for your wonderful comment!
