Device In Hand

In this world of this and that Likes and follows and tit for tat Some fritter and Twitter the hours away Completely unaware there is more to the day Tweak and Tweet every little thing Only interrupted by the occasional ring Unaware of the Life all around For the device in hand which both empowers and confounds All this convenience can ease the mind And yet simpler things can be so divine Like Mother Earth breathing beneath our feet And yet our attention seems out of her reach Just listen to the Spirit inside that calls… There is only One to follow… And He will love us all

Urbanized, that's what so many of us are, and distracted into another life.

How right you are Doug, and how easily we humans are distracted! But I love being outside communing with nature instead of my phone... and yet here I am in the soup haha:)

I really like the way you weave technology with spirituality Chris :-) I'm a nature and animal lover like you...that feeling inside after spending a day outdoors with the sounds, scents and aura of the elements is so tranquil and one usually sleeps very peacefully too. Technology has its place, the soup is my only foray into social media. Wonderful writing, a joy to read. blessings, lynnxx hope you are very well, enjoy a lovely week :-)

I know...sorry I don't get more time. I do have more in my closet too, just been really busy working. I get up at five, and don't usually see dinner till seven, then shower, bed and do it all over again. Thanks for reading all my stuff though...major compliment:)

This is a really wise poem, Chris. You are so right. I long for the days when we were not so occupied with our cell phones. I am addicted to Soup, not my phone, and yet even the one to two hours a day here is so unbelievable compared to my life in the 70's!! Very nice poetry.

Thanks for reading again Andrea:) I do of course have a phone, but I use mine more for music and pictures than anything else. I spend a lot of time outdoors and spend much of my day doing physical things taking care of and training animals. The older I get though, it is nice to spend time sitting and enjoying the Soup!:)

A lovely poem with a message, Chris. It's true...so much time is wasted, and the little exercise indulged in seems addressed only to fingers, especially thumbs! I'm blessed to have grown up in another time and age!! Regards // paul

Sorry I've been away...feverishly working on finishing touches and edits of my book in spare time... thanks for reading... this one just came to me, and it probably wouldn't have if not for inspiration from other poets here! I'll try to post more often:)

yes, and the one in charge of the country is doing it more than us. That says a lot for the state of our union!! good one, Chris.

It seems our youth have become reliant on technology. I try to take my kids out into nature at least once a month.

Of course I'm not a youth, but there is nothing better for me than walking my dogs, or riding horses down the trails!:)...happy trails Tim:)

So true, Chris! So much modern technology has hindered us from paying attention to the simple, more meaningful things in this life. Great write! Blessings, Kim
