Determined To Wow the Teacher
I remember taking a discarded sixth grade history book home, the last day of fifth grade.
Determined to wow my sixth grade teacher, by learning it cover to cover over the summer.
I taught myself the first three chapters, and tried to entice my friends into learning them too.
They lost interest way before I did. Some on page twelve, and the first page with words was eleven.
I think my twin sister hid the book after the sixth day. A true blue favor to me.
That freed me up to ride bikes, roller skate, build forts, and play badminton and tether ball with her.
This memory floated into my mind a few minutes ago, lost there for fifty-some years.
