Despair

Despair is a desperate denial to cope
It’s the fundamental essence of losing hope

Despair’s process begins with something aspired
The breeding ground of being inspired

You believe in a dream with no limitation
And, your heart is filled with anticipation

Something happens, and it all falls through
So, your sunken heart knows not what to do

Your total being comes under suspicion
And, out the window goes all you ambition

Your reflection in the mirror shows nothing at all
And, your self-esteem begins to drastically fall

All of the sudden, you just don’t care
And, this, you see, is called despair

Kimberly, I like how you explored despair as starting out with a dream, which then failed. You saw it thru a whole cycle! I enjoyed reading it. SEe ya later! Andrea

Kimberly, so well written on a sad and devastating subject.. a friend of mine had high ambitions this past June and his hopes got dashed and he has not yet recovered.. I am going to send him your poem.. maybe he will see himself in it and begin to heal ... thankxxx for sharing... keep giving us more "food for thought" poetry... Linda-Marie, P.E.P.S. So insightful, couldn't have put it better myself if I was a psychologist:) for me despair is an act of pushing. push the good out of my mind and focus only on the negative with true obsession. Then at the end of the day, when truly all hope is lost, something mediocre will happen that's good, like maybe getting some nice comment on a poem. In my state of super depression it seems like I was just tossed a lifeline even if it wasn't intended that way. Then the cycle just repeats itself.
