Departed Friendships

For Linda, Freddie, Chan, & others that meant something true to us…

Another departure…

Another wistful teardrop
Embracing yesterday’s candid goodbye

No longer can we touch their physical soul.

But, we
Can keep amnesia’s accented clef at bay

Holding their voice beyond new tomorrows

…

It is the triangle of life’s conundrum
When we slow dance with the arms of Why
The breaths of How
The misunderstood elegance of inevitabilities

We are taught the 2 guarantees of life: Death & Taxes

Yet, only one really means more to us
Within sunrise’s incipience

We hold convex reflections with incandescent sadness.

Yet, time allows opportunity to fly higher than God’s perspective
EVEN through our limited wisdoms
While we cherish
Remember
The Candles in our wind

…

I whisper silent prayers for our friends, family, & colleagues that now SOAR WITHIN!

For they may no longer be in front of you & I...

They are
And always shall be

I was honored to have Chan on our Stand As 1 show back in March 2014. It was a deeply memorable show. You can listen to how it all went down here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/standas1/2014/03/16/stand-as-1-returns-wspecial-guest-that-archaic-poet

AWESOME piece, I love this...my favorite lines:It is the triangle of life’s conundrum When we slow dance with the arms of Why The breaths of How The misunderstood elegance of inevitabilities "...best lines I've heard for quite some time. A very touching and philosophical piece touching base on the fact that things simply do not last....and many things aren't guaranteed

So happy to see you back writing new stuff! And what a beautiful piece this is. It both mourns for the tragic loss and yet exalts the beauty of the life-in-the-next. Your poetry is always powerful, but what I loved about this one is that most every line was clear to me, even with your unusual metaphors. "The misunderstood elegance of inevitabilities." I've always been a preacher of liberty, but this gave me pause - while your conclusion was thoughtful and comforting.

Very moving my friend. Sorry for the delay in reading. I had the pleasure of knowing Chan and Freddie, both were true individuals and their absence is felt. I am not sure if Freddie is truy gone, (I hope not but time will tell). It was nice to have you visit the other day. It is also good to have you back writing.

Drake this is an amazing and emotional tribute. I always pick up on something, some line that resonates. Here it is, "slow dance with the arms of Why" When we get stuck wanting why? answered I picture a sedate box step that always leads us back to where we started. We should be doing a two-step or fox trot that builds in momentum to a glorious stomp dance that celebrates the amazing lives of those who have gone, and keep dancing to show them what we can do while holding onto their memories.

Spot on, Monterey. I think after the reflection & embracing of memories shared with that person who has departed from this Earth, we should celebrate where they're going next. Personally, I feel that is the key to truly keeping them within our souls. Thank you so much!

We only knew Chan for about a year, but in that short time he sure made a lasting impression on all of us. He will certainly be missed. And, as you've said, life does go on, though the past is always close by.... This was an uplifting and tender write, Drake. A very beautiful tribute for those friends we've lost.
