Demolition By Soft Touches
Some have a hard exterior,
A common defense -
A protection from the outside world
When inside, one feels tense.
With soft touches of kindness
And gentle considerate thoughts,
A demolition of such defenses
Can afford to be bought...
Consider the Tortoise and its shell
With its foresty coloured contours.
If the Tortoise never came out,
Would we see that smile we adore?
Would it move about and eat?
Would it have strong, fast legs and feet?
Sooner or later it would be gone
To the sorrow of those who own that one.
But with soft touches and gentle coaxing,
Out pops those wrinkly limbs
And that cute little round head
With its adorable grins.
A demolition of fear,
Of insecurity,
Of the thoughts of possible danger
And this creature roams happy and free!
... And so it is with people
Who have been taught to be afraid.
With a demolition by soft touches,
New friendships can be made.
