DEMENTIA CASTS LONG SHADOWS

DEMENTIA CASTS LONG SHADOWS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
sunlight fades from the window ledge hands tremble, reaching through mist where memories dwell her memory – a moth-eaten shawl whispers cling to dusty frames, familiar faces blurred like rain on windowpanes keys forget what doors they knew chairs hold ghosts’ warm weight the clocks hands swim backward through forgotten dates footsteps echo in empty rooms long shadows cast where memories pass

Hi Sara, a sorrowful beauty of a poem. My sister-in-law on Long Island has vascular dementia. Poor woman, it breaks my heart. Your sensitive poem described this tragic condition with grace and dignity. October blessings to you and Bill. ~

My mother had dementia before she passed. She didn't know who I was, one of the saddest moments of my life

No matter the kind of dementia, it is a tragic sickness. Your description of memory loss is spot on. Substantial and extensive

Dementia is a very sad illness whatever kind of dementia it happens to be. So much of it has been in my husband's family and in mine as well. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara K
