Demagogue Delight
They felt he could be trusted with their fate
With comfortable words to free from blame
He told a tale to which they could relate
Where guiltless victimhood could be their claim
With bleeding heart he said: “I feel your pain
You sorry creatures need us for your aid
From being active cause, you can abstain
And leave it all to us - forget free trade”
“The freedom that we bring is to receive
The many things of which you have a need
We’ll take from those who have; no ‘by-your-leave’
Just give to me your trust; your power concede”
His smile was so sincere: transparent look
Who knew that he was such a thumping crook
