Deep Rivers

The clock on the wall
vibrates in the cool night
   Our songs have been sung
and we wait for
     the world to recognize us
for
what
we are- straight shooters who
            have something to contribute
            to the general situation
     Time is a winding river
Eventually it will reach
                        the
                        sea
Powerful currents move us
      towards new vistas
Yet it is certain that
     the ocean will swallow
us whole in the end
         Despair is not in our
vocabulary
    So we continue to feel
optimmistic
        Glidng through the
waters
   with uncertainty a
member of our crew

As we journey through life, nothing is more certain than "uncertainty." We never know what is up around the bend in the road -- what the future holds. It's great that you are strong enough to keep despair away, Matthew, as so many struggle with depression. Your "Deep Rivers" have deep meaning, my friend. (And I just had thoughts about the red barns I was seeing as I drove to NJ.) Love, Carolyn

Hi Matthew-- this sure is an intense poem that also evoked powerful images in my head-- very nicely written (just an extra "m" in optimistic-- hope this helps )-- thank you for your well wishes-- I have yet to experience autumn since I live in a tropical country-- but I enjoy experiencing it through the inspiring writes that I read here -- thank you :) -- nikko :)

a solid write my friend, your poetic prowess carries the reader through the piece smoothly and evenly, I commented back regarding your question on my golfing limerick about the word 'arife'.
