Deep and Meaningless Words

You won’t see these words
in a shop window
printed across a smiling face,
or scribbled upon a wall -
they will probably never be daubed
on toilet stall doors either.

Deep and meaningless words
are generally reserved
for deep and meaningless poetry.
Works of literary art
that paint pretty word-pictures.

They are often well crafted,
but in the end
the reader is left hollow
wondering

why depth is so often presented
in such a shallow way.

Pondering your poem and its overall meaning. I guess we wonder where our words go. They are short lived…perhaps…but then again perhaps they have a life of their own. Many poets don’t even share their lovely and otherwise lines with others. Perhaps those things that come from the heart mean something. Droll is the things on signs and in stalls…lol. Happy Weekend!

Thank you, Kim, for these thoughts. Poems from the heart should be always respected. The poem hits a sour note, for it must point out that pretty words alone do not make a great poem. All the very best and thank you for these thoughts. E
